It’s not everyday you get to stay at Maynooth College!Had an overnight stay in the Crotty Room and it was just wonderful. Arriving at the College, whilst in the town, one cannot be but impressed by the majestic entrance to this wonderful old college.Car parking was super simple and within minutes I was transported back in time to the splendour of the extraordinary hallway that led to a small elevator which took me to my room. The Crotty Room was just beautiful, high ceilings, filled with light - several charming windows - as windows used to be, overlooking the College and Gardens. The room was serene - top floor, extremely cozy and warm with facilities for tea making etc,Housekeeping did a fabulous job and the bed was really comfortable, great pillows and “ hotel chic “ crispy white bed-linen.I so loved staying here, the reasons too numerous to mention and after a delicious breakfast downstairs - both continental and cooked available - I reluctantly headed on my way ... glancing “ over my shoulder “ thinking ... “ simply have to do this again “Honestly, a unique and special place to stay"
What an absolutely fabulous find ! Yes, accommodation ticks all the boxes .... warm, clean, wifi etc ..... BUT .... WOW, WOW and double WOW / WOW !!!What sets it apart from everywhere else .... is the setting ..... it is magical !! Glorious buildings, church on site, and (muffled) bells pealing every 1/4 hour .... Absolutely stunning .... and all for 30 euro a night for a single room ! ...bargain !
I have lived in Maynooth for Many years and only recently discovered this place. I have passed this place countless times but had not until recently ventured in. This is a place is an Oasis of Calm (out of term time) , The University was originally a seminary and the grounds are magnificent maze of tranquil walks in formal gardens. The buildings are gothic and its so unexpected in a small rural town. It would be easy to pass by and not notice this place as its for the most part hidden from view. Definitely worth a visit on your way west from Dublin.
We were just in Maynooth for one overnight. Attending a concert at the Glen Royal Hotel. Their rooms were more than we wished to spend. We took three rooms at this conference center. It took just a few minutes to get our bearings, but it turned out to be a great choice! Close walk to everything (including our concert) and a short thirty minute taxi ride to the airport the next morning. Use the taxi service that they recommend with cards at reception.
For only staying in the town for one night I can't complain, it is a small quiet town that doesn't boast much- it has a few quaint places and a lot of history based on the time that you visit (most attractions are seasonal). The rooms are lovely, a mix of modern and vintage, very easily accessible from local vicinities. Very reasonable for the price. Lovely place to visit!!
